Omaha Specialty Finish Feature Hallway

This new home in Omaha has a tall, bright white hallway with large glass doors that let in the evening light. Glass was a deliberate feature of the design, but with light reaching every surface, the space had become too intense. Our client wanted to bring in texture and depth to calm it down.

A full Venetian plaster finish would have been a lot of work and wasn't the right fit for the space. Instead, we used Porter's Paints Stone Paint Fine, applied in a thatching technique. The paint contains marble dust and dries to an entirely matt finish, which gives the wall a soft, stone-like surface. Because it is textured and non-reflective, it takes light and spreads it rather than bouncing it back, so the brightness of the hallway feels gentler.

The thatching gives the wall movement and depth that a flat coat can't, with the look of a stone surface but a softer character. The effect reads as mood and refinement more than pattern, and it changes slightly through the day as the light moves.

It is also a practical option for homeowners. Stone Paint Fine adds personality and warmth to a home without the cost, time and disruption of extensive plastering, and the matt finish helps hide minor surface imperfections.
