Kewai Street Timber Recondition
This Omaha home needed its interior timber brought back to a consistent, protected finish. Plywood walls and ceilings, kwila trim and joinery had weathered, stained and in places sun-bleached, with the old coating deeply embedded in the timber.
Preparation was the main part of the job. All joinery was sanded with dust extraction sanders and carefully scraped where needed, then finished in Sikkens Cetol TSI clear satin: two coats across the walls, ceilings and trim, and a third on handrails and high-use areas. On the kwila, the first coat was thinned to penetrate the timber, with full-strength coats applied over the top.
The bathroom vanity, shelves and joinery were refinished in a two-pot Synteko system, after the degrading silicone was cut away and the stubborn existing finish sanded back. Interior doors had their hardware removed, were sanded, spot primed and repainted in Dulux Aquaenamel in Tuxedo, and the exterior block wall was repainted in Dulux Weathershield. The cedar walls were treated with Cutek mould wash, and the louvres were removed and sanded, with one repaired, and left uncoated.
