Takatu Road Coastal Cottage: Renewing a Weathered Black Exterior
This coastal cottage on Takatu Road had been finished in black Resene Woodsman some time ago. Salt, sun and weather had done what they do on this coastline: the pigment had worn back towards bare timber, leaving the exterior looking tired and uneven.
We started by washing the whole cottage to remove built-up dirt and salt, so the new coating had a clean surface to bond to. We then applied two top coats of Resene Woodsman in Charred Black, which restored depth of colour and brought back the clean, dark look the cottage was designed around. The roof was repainted in Resene Grey Friars, and the metalwork on the balustrade and the garage doors were finished in Resene Sonyx 101.
This was a particularly special property, and the work was approached accordingly. We took extra care with preparation, protection of the surrounding areas and the finish itself, with close attention to detail throughout.
The result is a cottage that suits its setting again, with a finish that will weather far better than the one it replaced.
